Nikki (she/hers/our/ours) is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant finishing her M.A. in Communication Studies and received their B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Health Education from SFSU. She has been a personal assistant to a community college instructor for over 10 years. She has been an intercollegiate speech and debate competitor, tournament judge, peer coach, and Forensics’ community member since 2013, specializing in Parliamentary Debate, Impromptu, Dramatic Interpretation, and Informative speeches. Her goals as an instructor at SF State are to guide students’ growth as a public speakers, critical thinkers, and active communicators by bridging communication theory to real life.
Her research intersects Multiraciality, Interpersonal Relationships, Race & Communication, Gender & Communication, Disability & Communication, Health Communication, Forensics, and Critical Communication Pedagogy. Her research focuses on taking a critical approach to analyzing the intersectionality and critical multiracial identity theory of multiracial, biracial, and racially mixed individuals’ experiences within Communication. This includes how these individuals interact within their communities, family structures, and interpersonal relationships. Nikki’s master’s creative project under development is a short educational film titled “Exploring Multiraciality & MultiCrit Theory in Communication: A Mixed-Race Autoethnography Approach.”
Beyond academia, her personal interests include being a parent, traveling, arts & crafts, and an Instagram content creator of AllMixedupWorks.
This WSCA 2024 Convention, Nikki will be a recipient of a Top Debut paper titled, “Reproductive (in)justice, parenting, & the multiracial individual: A critical analysis of past literature” from the Communication, Identities, and Difference Interest Group.
