Lisset Lopez

Lisset is a SF State Graduate who moved to San Francisco from Los Angeles and has been living in the Bay Area for nearly 4 years. She loves the diversity, culture, and community the city offers. As a graduate student, Lisset has explored various subdisciplines, many of which have profoundly impacted her. These include critical pedagogy, race and rhetorical communication, environmental communication, Intercultural communication, health communication, and family communication. These areas of study have profoundly influenced her understanding of her own lived experiences and shaped her academic path.

While her interests lie within a variety of scholarship, her main research focuses on disability within Communication Studies. She dedicates much of her success to her family, particularly her parents and siblings. Her brother, who has Down syndrome, has been a major source of inspiration, motivating her to write from a disability perspective and get involved in disability rights advocacy. As a first-generation Latina, she hopes to give back to underrepresented communities through education, mentorship, and advocacy.

On her downtime, she enjoys exploring the outdoors and the beautiful landscapes of the Bay Area. She is an avid golfer, disc golfer and loves to fish. Additionally, she loves attending local art galleries and dedicating time to do volunteer work.

Lisset is deeply grateful to the SF State Communication Studies department and to the faculty members who have mentored, supported, and shared an invaluable knowledge throughout her academic journey.
