Leah Wingard is a Language and Social Interaction scholar/teacher. Her work broadly investigates how speakers navigate dilemmas and tensions in a variety of interactional settings. Recent work examines communication practices such as teasing and microaggression among peers, socialization in parent-child interaction, coaching and medical encounters with people who live with diabetes, and resilience narratives with survivors of sex-trafficking. Dr. Wingard is trained in Discourse Analysis, Conversation Analysis and ethnographic methods and she holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics. She regularly teaches content and methods courses in LSI at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At SFSU, she has assembled the LSI video archive which is accessible to researchers worldwide who use LSI research methodologies, and she curates the LSI pedagogy page for the LSI division of the National Communication Association.
